L.A.’s Atomic Basement and Ninth Circle Studios are coming to Manila
Atomic Basement Comics and Ninth Circle Studios in association with Nerd Rage PH presents “Atomic Sessions Manila: The Season Finale,” a day of discussions on comic book publishing, art, and geek life. The event will take place at The Studio of Fully Booked, BGC from 1pm to 8pm on Saturday, March 7.
The panels and sessions will feature Eisner Award nominee, writer and comic book retailer, Mike Wellman and Emmy award winning artist, Rafael Navarro. Both are based in Los Angeles and are creators behind the six-issue title, “Guns A’ Blazin’” which has been described as “Doctor Who Meets Smokey and the Bandit.”
Mike has worked on his own titles, “Mac Afro” and “Gone South.” He has also written for “Star Trek,” “World of Warcraft,” “Battlestar Galactica (Echoes of New Caprica)” and many others. Rafael has his own award-winning title, “Sonambulo” (which has been translated into Spanish, French and Croatian). His work can be seen on shows like “The Batman,” Scooby Doo, “Rugrats,” “Mucha Lucha” and “Marvel Super Squad,” to mention but a few.
Mike also just opened his store, The Atomic Basement in Long Beach. The space isn’t just a retail store though—it’s a space for the comic and geek community to gather, work together, create together and game together.
There will be a discussion on geek communities with Mike Wellman, featuring Adrian Arcega of NerdFest. The panel event will be moderated by pop culture columnist and former comic book editor, Karen Kunawicz. This will be followed by an artist talk with Rafael Navarro on creating and publishing comics, with the event culiminating in a Drink and Draw—with artists and cosplayers.
Prior to the March 7 event, Mike and Rafael will also be having Q&A sessions on March 2 (De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde) and March 3 (The Gallery, Mint Ortigas East).
